Dormant Pruning Keeps Your Landscape Healthier

With leaves gone, it’s easier to see where to prune for better shape and structure.

Winter pruning is an essential part of any comprehensive landscape maintenance plan – and it’s one of the best things you can do to keep trees and shrubs healthy and well-shaped during the dormant season.

Because leaves have already fallen, winter makes it much easier to see the overall structure of your trees and shrubs, identify problem areas, and make precise pruning cuts. During this time, plants are less active, with minimal sap flow, so pruning wounds “bleed” less and heal more efficiently.

Winter pruning is ideal for removing dead wood, crossing branches, and limbs that obstruct patios, walkways, or windows. Dormant pruning not only improves the health and appearance of trees and shrubs but also enhances the overall look and functionality of your landscape.

The only exception to winter pruning is spring-flowering shrubs. Their buds are already set by this time, so pruning them now would remove next season’s blooms.

We’re now scheduling winter pruning services to get your landscape in great shape before spring arrives. Contact us or your account manager today to reserve your spot!
