About The Team
Design/Project Management
JEFF BOLLINGER
PENNSYLVANIA CERTIFIED HORTICULTURIST
Design Consultant
When choosing a path for my college education and my career, I sought to blend my love of science, botany, art, and architecture. Upon graduating from Delaware Valley University with a degree in Horticulture, I found the perfect career for me and have been practicing it for over 40 years at Hively. Thank you to every client for allowing me to enhance your property! Though I am now semi-retired, I continue to learn daily and to engage in limited landscape and hardscape projects, especially of the challenging nature.
BRIAN WALTERSDORF
REGISTERED LANDSCAPE
ARCHITECT
Design Consultant
For more than 38 years, Brian Waltersdorf has been thinking “outside the house.” He listens attentively to his customers and uses his attention to detail to creatively solve their landscape needs, often helping them consider a solution they would not have, otherwise. As a graduate of Penn State University with a Bachelor of Science in Landscape Architecture and a Registered Landscape Architect in the Commonwealth of PA, Brian approaches the landscape holistically. Brian has been part of the Hively team for 15 years.
NICK GUTSHALL
Design Consultant
As a Design Consultant, my role, and passion, is to transform each client’s outdoor space through collaboration and education. Ultimately bringing their vision to life.
I am a graduate of Penn State University’s Landscape Contracting Program, where my classroom and field training equipped me with the tools to help clients navigate the complex and constantly evolving world of the landscape and outdoor living industry.
Working in the landscape industry allows me to combine my passion for the outdoors with a career centered on sharing my knowledge and helping others bring their ideas to life.
Outside of work, I am an avid outdoorsman who enjoys habitat improvement projects for various game species. I also enjoy traveling the country and camping along the way.
MATT SANDY
REGISTERED LANDSCAPE
ARCHITECT
Design Consultant
My passion for the outdoors sprouted in my youth, spent exploring the rugged landscapes of my childhood home in Michigan’s Upper Peninsula. That early connection to nature continues to influence my approach to landscape design today.
I earned a bachelor’s degree in landscape architecture from Philadelphia University and spent more than two decades designing landscapes while managing a successful design/build company in the Chestnut Hill neighborhood of Philadelphia, gaining a deep appreciation for timeless design and craftsmanship.
Blending the classic landscape traditions of the Wissahickon Valley with a modern focus on native plantings and ecological responsibility, I have developed a design philosophy rooted in respect—for the natural environment, the architectural character of each property, and the lasting impact a well-designed landscape can have.
My family and I have called the York area home for many years. After commuting to Philadelphia for much of my career, I now bring my experience and passion closer to home as a Design Consultant with Hively Landscapes.
Driven by a commitment to family, nature, and meaningful design, I take pride in creating outdoor spaces where clients can relax, connect, and build lasting memories.
MATT DAVIES
Project Manager
I learned the value of hard work, discipline, and teamwork at an early age while growing up on our family farm in Delaware. These qualities led me into the landscaping industry, where I quickly advanced from crew laborer to crew leader at a high-end landscape company by exhibiting strong leadership and a commitment to quality work.
In 2006, I relocated to Louisiana to pursue opportunities in the forestry and construction industries before answering the call to serve our country in the United States Army as a Combat Medic. During my military career I served honorably both at home and abroad, and continued to develop my leadership skills, adaptability, and the ability to perform under pressure.
After receiving an honorable discharge with the rank of sergeant, I moved to Pennsylvania and built a successful landscape business in Lancaster County. Today, I am proud to continue my dedication to supporting others through leadership as Project Manager with the customer-focused team at Hively Landscapes.
When I am not working, I am spending time with my wife Tanya, stepson Rhett, and daughter McKinley.
Operations
TYLER SMITH
Operations Manager
As a young boy, I always enjoyed being outdoors, getting into small projects on the backyard dirt pile. As I grew, I continued to work around the landscape at my home in Lewisburg, PA. After graduating from Penn State University in 2016, with a Bachelor’s Degree in Landscape Contracting, I began my career with Hively as a Crew Member. In my spare time, I enjoy any activity involving the outdoors, and getting my hands dirty in real estate projects.
HILARY SNYDER
Account Manager
I have always had a passion for design, building, and horticulture. Growing up, my father owned a successful contracting business, and my mother and I would spend many weekends tending to our family garden.
In high school, I began to design fictional homes and landscapes using the only “design software” that I had available: The Sims 4!
Upon graduating from The Pennsylvania State University with a degree in Landscape Contracting and a minor in Horticulture, I gained valuable experience in commercial, residential, and public landscape design, build, and maintenance while working for respected landscape companies in both Maryland and Pennsylvania. As Account Manager with Hively, I am focused on ensuring successful outcomes for our residential maintenance clients through communication.
In my spare time, I enjoy hiking with my fiancé and our dog, as well as dabbling in arts and crafts.
DAVE GRAEFF
Purchasing Coordinator
My father was an amazing amateur botanist. He taught me to graft, among many other things. He developed an apple tree that produced seven different varieties on a single tree! So, it felt like a natural choice to attend Delaware Valley University, where I graduated with a BS Horticulture.
I managed the 265 acre Round Barn orchard in Adams County for seven years. Then I decided to move into the ornamental horticulture realm. I have owned two successful green industry businesses, and achieved ISA Board Certified Master Arborist, among other certifications.
When I’m not dedicating my spare time to my granddaughter I enjoy mountain biking. I am happy to be a part of the Hively team because of our tireless dedication to integrity and to our clients.
Business Office
BILLIE JO MAZOL
General Manager
From IT administration to real estate, Billie Jo brings broad experience to compliment the leadership team at Hively.
Part of the team since 2018, her primary responsibilities include budgeting and fiscal planning, implementing and refining workflow processes, coaching and supporting staff, and guiding the Hively core values of communication, teamwork, and client satisfaction.
Outside the office, Billie Jo is a dog lover and “property manager” of her own piece of history, a 1900’s farmhouse located in Jackson Twp.
TED VENTRE
Owner
While living on the east end of Long Island in 2000, I began helping a friend tend to his large tree nursery to make extra money on the weekends. I liked it so much that I began working on a landscape installation crew as a general laborer and worked my way up to crew leader.
Over the next several years at companies in NY, MD and PA, my desire to learn more about the business side of the industry led me from crew leader to equipment operator, project manager, division manager and owner/operator of my own company in 2008. I acquired Hively in 2010 and today, I continue to learn more about this business and more importantly, how to empower our team to succeed and grow, personally and professionally.
Outside of work I enjoy traveling, trail running, and mountain biking with my wife Kristen and son Jack.
