Natural Pest Control
June 21, 2016In celebration of Shark Week 2016 kicking off this Sunday (June 26), we wanted to draw attention to a real danger to humans here in Pennsylvania… mosquitoes! You may be surprised to learn that the deadliest animal in the world is also one of the smallest in size. Here in Pennsylvania, we most associate mosquitoes with the West Nile Virus, and in other parts of the world they also carry malaria, dengue fever, yellow fever, encephalitis, and the much talked about, Zika virus. Mosquitoes are hard to escape as they are found in every region of the world except for Antarctica, and in Alaska they’re so big and plentiful that they’re the unofficial state bird.
To control mosquitoes and other pests, many of our competitors use a broad spectrum chemical that eliminates any insects that it touches. The trouble with this practice is that insecticides aren’t smart enough to distinguish between mosquitoes and beneficial insects. So, the use of chemical insecticides is extremely harmful because it kills pollinators and other beneficial bugs, such as the honey bee or praying mantis.
At Hively Landscapes, we recognize this problem, and that’s why we’re one of the few York County businesses that use a natural pest control. We’ve found that by using cedar oil, a natural repellent, you can keep mosquitoes, ticks, fleas and other “bad” bugs away without as much harm to beneficial bugs.
If you have pets or children at home and are mindful of the harmful chemicals used by most pest control companies, we encourage you to give the team at Hively Landscapes a call. Most importantly, our natural pest control treatments are non-toxic to humans and pets. We’ll help develop a plan for periodic applications that is focused around your lifestyle for maximum impact.
Hively also offers custom tree, shrub and lawn care programs including fertilization, deep root feeding, weed control and natural pest control.
